Adult Lunches To-Go

Posted by Laura S on

Packing a lunch when you're on the go and during work days is convenient and and helps us with healthy choices. It also saves money. The easiest way to plan tomorrow's lunch is by cooking extra dinner with leftovers put away in individually portioned containers so you can grab and go in the morning.

Here are a few tips for getting out the door efficiently:

  • Pre-set the brew time on your coffee maker if you have one. Have your thermos ready to go next to the machine.
  • Put your meals in the appropriate sized container so you can just open the fridge to quickly grab and go.
  • Pack non-perishables like an apple or homemade muffin the night before.

It's about creating the habit and having the right portable containers that suit your needs. Here are the top 3 types of portable storage containers to have on-hand:

1. Drinks

Buying a bottle of water is not only an unnecessary expense but can be easily avoided by creating the habit of always having a water bottle on-hand. If you don't love straight-up water, try one that infuses fruit flavors like cucumber and strawberry.

A great way to ensure you are getting enough hydration is to keep a mental note of how many times you have refilled the bottle throughout the day. If it is a 500 ml water bottle aim for 4 refills to get over 2L daily. By creating the habit to have one on hand it means you are more consciously hydrating and not wasting money on buying up plastic bottles. It is also environmentally friendly.

Stainless Steel ThermosBringing coffee on the go is a convenient way to enjoy a morning commute, walk or to sip between errands. Stainless steel helps to keep your beverage hot longer and is easy to clean. Depending on the size of coffee you drink, there are different thermos options with a small typically being 12 oz and large 16 oz beverage.

2. Utensils

Metal Travel Cutlery SetCommunity shared utensils like those in the lunchroom are a great way to share germs with colleagues. A desk set of utensils makes it easy to avoid communal office eating tools and are easily cleaned and put back in your drawer after your meal.

2-in-1 Spork (Spoon & Fork)Keeping  clean reusable eating utensils in the car is a way to avoid disposable plastic. A compact foldable 2-in-1 spork (spoon and fork) doesn't take up much space and is quite handy if you packed some yogurt on the go!

3. Containers

Collapsible Lunch Bento BoxPacking leftovers like a salad or stir fry for lunch ensures you are eating healthfully throughout the day and getting vegetables in! With work bags often being full and heavy, a foldable container is a good option for compact travel home.  A container that is microwavable and dishwasher safe is ideal for quick pack up and cleaning

Create the habit of making enough dinner so there are leftovers for tomorrows lunch.
